Flexing fibres is an installation dedicated to unraveling the intricate sound of a tree in motion. In essence it is an immense multichannel stethoscope, unveiling the audible textures off a tree, allowing visitors to immerse themselves spatially in its soundscape through a custom spatial speaker sculpturesĀ
The sound system has no dampening materials, and are in essence resonating cylinders and free high frequency tweeters. It works with the artefacts of resonating bodies, and combines this with high fidelity technology. The installation plays on associations to interconnecting nerve endings, root systems, and the electric grid to create a public sensory organ.
